JOHN COLLINGE (originally from New Haven, CT) graduated from New York City’s New School University in 2011 with a BFA in music performance (saxophone) and a BA in history. His teachers include Reggie Workman, Barry Harris, Jane Ira Bloom, Walt Weiskopf, George Cables, Tim Price, Rachel Z, Gil Goldstein and Jim Snidero. After college he worked in New York’s music industry for Boosey and Hawkes and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), eventually rising to the position of Senior Account Executive for the Broadcast Licensing department, while continuing his career as a musician performing throughout the New York metropolitan area. Marriage in 2018 brought John to his wife’s city of Belem, Brazil where his music career flourished. In Belem, he passed a public entrance exam to become a professor of saxophone at Belem’s renowned Carlos Gomes Conservatory and was selected to play alto saxophone in the state jazz orchestra, "Amazonia Jazz Band", performing regularly at Belem’s historic Teatro da Paz and touring Brazil and many parts of South America, sharing the stage with many famous Brazilian musicians. Having recently returned to the US with his family, John has settled down in South Florida where his day job is hiring musicians for the Royal Caribbean fleet and he has quickly become one of the region's first-call jazz saxophonists.
